Ultimate: Extremely slow copy & paste
by DryvBy - 2/8/07 11:52 AM
My specs (so you'll know):
AMD Athlon 64 4000+
Gigabyte nForce3 mobo
1.7GB DDR Memory (Corsair) 333fsb PC2700
2x250GB WDigital 7200RPM (non-sata, non-raid)
nVidia GeForce 6600GT
So, whenever I copy and paste a file, it takes forever and a day. It only really happens when I copy over a ton of files. Let's say I copy over 10GB of junk that contains 10,000 files. For some reason, Vista does it's calculations and then takes forever and a day. It literally says it's going to take 3 hours for that many files. On top of that, the computer is a bit unresponsive to Windows Explorer. It seems to eat up my CPU to copy files now. What's up with that?
(What I've done so far...)
Went to Windows XP Professional, didn't happen there. 10GB of stuff would copy over in 2 minutes at max.
Went to Vista Ultimate. Extreme slow down on copying.
Reinstalled. Didn't do anything. Tried to copy. Same thing.
Basically, XP works fine. Vista seems to be slow on moving files. This is happening a lot online, from what I've researched on Google. Anyone else having this problem or know how to fix this?
