Didn't try Tenorshare, but I did try a few others. As I replied above, the trial-versions only searched so far before telling me that I needed to buy the "full version". Understandable since they are in the business to make money. Besides, the PW I forgot was quite long (15+ characters) that used lots of symbols so I didn't think too much of this.

That is until just as a lark I changed my PW to "go" and then tried to use the same trial versions again. All of them after a few seconds got the PW but only showed me the "g". They said that I needed to purchase the "full version" to find out the last letter. Again, I understand that they are in the business to make money, but that seemed a little lame.

So I decided to save my money and invest in a pen and some paper instead.

An IP check found them to be posting as a SHILL. If you don't know how this works a person posts "helpful" replies to lead folk to what they are selling.

Password wasn't '1234'. A 'Dictionary Attack' wouldn't have worked for me since it wasn't actually a word. So, I just did my own brute search, made a list of all the passwords I could remember using, checked it twice and eventually got lucky.

I tried some free online trial versions of software similar to what you suggested. They weren't very helpful. They would only search so far before saying that I needed to purchase the "full version" to complete the search. Since I remembered my password, I didn't needed to do that. But, even if I hadn't remember it, I wouldn't have done bought them anyways. Much less costly in my case just to re-load iTunes, wipe the phone, and start from scratch.
