Can I Receive Calls in Car via Aux Cord

I can't seem to figure out how to get voice calls to go through my car speakers using an aux cord.

When I had my Android the speaker's voice would go through the car speaker system if the aux cord (for music) was already plugged in. I've tried doing the same on my iPhone 4S but doesn't seem to work.

Anyone out there know how to get this done?

I've used an aux cord before with my 4S to make and receive calls and I've never had an issue.

What type of aux cord are you using?
