Can iPhone play full HD videos

As far as iPhone and iPad do not have standard resolution, does it mean iOS devices are not able to play full HD videos?

By full HD videos I mean those videos with 1920*1080 resolution.

Since many iPhones do not have a 1080p display, it doesn't really play them, does it?

My guess: it can play them, but it will lower the resolution to fit the screen. But I don't have one to try (neither a HD video nor a iOS device), so I might be wrong. Why not try?

Not sure why you wouldn't simply go there first(?)

I couldn't find any information regarding support for play HD videos in the website you mentioned but there were some information regarding HD video recording

I see the iPads have enough pixels for 1080p

Maybe your question needs reworking. For example if such play in your iTunes on your PC then you should be good to go.

Did you try that?

Also, I'm guessing you know how to use HANDBRAKE to make them just right for the iPad.
