Syncing tablets (both 7 and 10") with computer.

This may be something that everyone knows except for me but I will ask in spite of maybe sounding foolish.
I often check my hotmail on mt iPad or my kindle fire and that is where I clean the mail up. However it seems that I have to manage the same email on 3 different gadgets: iPad, kindle fire and windows 7 laptop.
In order to manage the email on only one device but have it manage the same mail on the other devices, do they all have to be Apple devices?
Please don't roll your eyes. I truly do not understand how all that works and would appreciate any advice.

That depends on how the mail is set up. If it's POP3, it's one way only (from the server to the device). If it's IMAP it's two way, so deletes propagate.

But why not use webmail?

What is webmail? I am definitely technologically challenged so I don't know what webmail or the POP setting stuff means. I would appreciate any and all suggestions and explanations. Thanks in advance!

Webmail is when you don't use a specific e-mail program (such as Windows Mail, Outlook Express, Thunderbird) on your PC, but use only your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox) to access your mail and send new ones.
