mrmacfixit and shoopt -- Re manual back up to iCloud from iPhone

Your answers to #1 -- better to use WiFi, but not necessary? (I will use WiFi)

What about #2 ? -- do I also need to be plugged to computer or electric outlet if use WiFi to back up?

And #3? -- lock screen or not?

#1. WiFi is fine but the transfer speed is relatively slow when compared with #2

#2. When directly connected to your computer, and therefore iTunes, your connection speed is the speed of USB 2.0, which is considerably faster than WiFi. You also have the added benefit of having the iDevice powered and not relying on its battery.

#3. Lock screen does not do anything for you in this situation.

Your answer to #2 is how I do my regular back ups -- I connect iPhone to computer, which brings up iTunes where I implement the backup; a record of the date of the back up is listed and the backup file goes to my Windows PC. No WiFi is used.

I thought backing up to iCloud was separate and superior to iTunes back ups. Are you saying that I can do my manual back up to iCloud using iTunes as I do with regular back ups when not using iCloud?

Appreciate your patience......it would be too confusing to tell you why I am so confused.....but it began at the Apple Store......

Inside iTunes you get a choice of where the backup file goes to.

I believe the default is your local internal hard drive with an option to go to the iCloud, your choice.

The benefit of using the iCloud is that the backup file is not on your local machine so is safe from any form of failure on the part of your computer.
