Hi,

I was gifted kindly an Iphone 3gs and I am using it with not with AT&T but with Straight talk and got a new sim from at&T and i did not jailbreak it I am concerned I would screw things up. version 4.0, firmwaare 5.13.04 but i do not know techie speak and somebody said something about a botrate or bootrate and I don' want to ruin this phone so what do you suggest for jailbreak is my first question. Two how do you go about getting rid of the pop up of the last persons email address and it asking for that persons password which I do not know and will not ask since it was a gift and not intended for anything but organizational help. Thank you!

If you go into the "settings" menu of your phone then about half way down there should be a folder called "store"

Once your in the store menu Click on "Apple ID" at the bottom of the screen (it will probably have the email address of the previous owner)
Then select "sign out" From here you should be able to sign in with your Apple ID or create one if you dont already have a account. Once you have done this your ID should transfer automatically over to the App Store.

I suggest a factory reset for a gifted phone

To properly cover the bases, it's sound practice to factory reset a used iPhone. It's painless, and you avoid any sort of headaches like the OP has described.
