Sure, rip your CDs but *always* backup your library in at least two places/different formats. For example, given the fact that you can often find a 1TB external drive for $50-60, that would be the more convenient place to put a backup of your music. [Original CDs are kept in storage if you maintain an archive of your originals.] Next, clone/copy the contents of this external to a second external that is placed in a friend's closet, etc. Third, burn copies of your digital files on a series of inexpensive DVDs. Done. Enjoy your iPod & speakers
