As a matter of principal I wouldn't buy another iPhone because AT&T did not disclose there would be a $30 per month charge to use Apple's applications. Second, this is clearly a monopoly! Get a lift AT&T and Apple.

I have a cheap cell phone that works just fine

I have been with AT&T for years, and as they have no plans to introduce 3G or 4g in our area, I have no plans to buy an iPhone. I can get 3G service with a number of other carriers in our area but why would I waste my money on a gadget that I could not use?

I have Sprint for my cell phone. Lots of other have Verizon and other carriers. Why are you asking about a phone that's specific to one carrier? Are you guys trying to push the carrier, the phone manufacturer, or both? Who gives a flying flip about an "iphone"!!!

Apple keeps such an iron-fisted control on the ways their products can be used that I cannot even begin to imagine any circumstances where I would ever purchase a product from them of any kind at any price. And their prices!

Not only do they seem to think that they still own the things you purchase from them, they constantly elevate style over substance and engage in marketing tactics so cleverly manipulative that they border on mass hypnosis. I am not talking about their overt advertising but by their deceptive manipulation of the media to drum up outrageous and totally unjustifiable hype in advance of their release of some "new" product (which is in most cases a restyled version of something that's been around for years and whose patents they have trodden upon).

I do not like the way they do business and I do not deal with user configuration Nazis when I can avoid it. In the case of Apple, I can certainly avoid it, and will continue to do so.

Go to Verizon. Get a Droid Incredible. You will find that dropped calls are something you forget even existed.

You seemed to be the one brain washed! You haven't noticed the Microsoft registration when you load their software. Have you read that long agreement that you agreed to?

Style over substance, I still have every MacIntosh that I've purchased starting with the Mac Plus. Everyone is still working and still doing a task for me. I've never had to repair any of them! Do they have style you bet. Can you say that about any PC product that you have purchased?

I have had hideous customer service from ATT and was going to use another provider when the iPhone came out. Not only is their customer service horrible, check out how they are involved in American politics. If you are not right winged, you will wonder if your iPhone is worth it.

That said, I love the 4 bc it is so much faster and the battery life is great.

Never have used the talktime feature bc no one I know has a 4.

I think your money situation is the best thing to do in determining if it is worth buying right away.

BTW---if you are dying to get it, most stores seem to sell it regardless of whether your contract is up at the same price you would get when your contract is up. Duh! More money into ATT coffers.
