ipod touch won't remember my network

I just recently acquired an ipod touch, and I'm very new to this (don't have an iphone). My home wireless network is set to use WPA2 and does not broadcast the SSID. I was able to get the ipod to connect without any trouble. I notice that when I turn it goes into standby and I turn it back on again, it is no longer connected, which I assume preserves the battery. The problem that I have is it does not automatically connect to the network. I have to go into the WI-FI settings and manually enter my network (since I don't broadcast the SSID). My other problem is that when I do this, it almost never remembers the encryption key. I'm really frustrated having to go and look that up everytime I want to connect. Is there a setting I can change to fix this? Do I need to broadcast the SSID?
