3G iPhone and in car Audi Bluetooth

I have the 3g iphone and an audi a4 fitted with audi's gsm phone prep ( 2008 )
connecting using bluetooth seems to be a nightmare
I can hear callers clearly at all times - -but everyone I'm calling is telling me I'm

A) very quiet, and,

B) for every four or five words in a sentence there are dropouts, so they just get a sentence with words missing - very frustrating - everyone has to strain to make sense of what I'm saying or even just hear me.

I've had the phone swapped at the applestore and they ran a diagnostic check to make sure the handset was okay, and audi have even replaced the mic trying to help.. unfortunately things haven't improved.

Anyone know of a solution - or even a possible reason ? The phone is on the latest 2.0.2, would a future apple update solve this ?

The hard part is that my old 2G iPhone works perfectly. ( Which is great but.....)

Any help appreciated.

unfortunately not - and can't get any further information from audi.
awaiting the 2.2 release for the phone from apple to see is that helps.

Having the same problem with my 2006 A6. Even with Apple's 2.2 update i get the same issue with voice quality on the other end. Have you found any further resolution to this?

I thought it was an apple thing initially, but I also have a blackberry 8820 with AT&T and it's the same exact problem....

have been told that the downgraded bluetooth chip that apple put in the 3g iphone doesn't work well with 'stereo' in car systems - which is why the phone works okay with apple's own earpiece ( it's mono ) and also with fit yourself kits that tend to be mono.
I'm now on 2.2 and maybe two out of five calls in car are okay now - but there's no real rhyme or reason for this. if so, surely they can fix this with an update ?
the long and short is that its not really a phone - even out of the car call quality is rank, dropped calls etc
if you come across a phone that do work 100%.....

I had this exact problem with the original Droid by Motorola but I was at least able to connect. I just got the new Iphone4 for Verizon and now I can't even connect to the BT...Anyone have any ideas of what I may be doing wrong? When I turn "ON" the BT on the phone it "searches" forever but never finds the Audi.... PLEASE HELP
