Who's stopped downloading from CNET?

CNET and I go way back, probably 15 years. I used to download freeware and shareware here all the time.
Then CNET switched to their ad-supported downloader app. Now, when you click a download link, you're no longer downloading what you think you are; you're downloading the downloader, which fetches your download while showing you ads.
Okay, CNET wanted to monetize their download service. They had meetings about it—no doubt with whiteboards and multimedia presentations and stuff—and decided no one would mind if they made this change.
But am I the only one here who feels creeped out by having to use a third-party downloader? And so many good, straightforward download sites elsewhere, why bother?
I still visit CNET for its fine reviews and other informative content, but I've regretfully stopped downloading here. Too bad, as CNET was one of the Net's great pioneering download sites. I wondered if anyone else had the same feelings about this.
