What is with Cnet installer hijacking and malware?

I used to trust Cnet, but lately this new Cnet down-loader is causing security problems, trying to hijack screen space from my web browsers and slowing down and complicating the download process.

What is wrong with just downloading the product without trying to hijack my web browser, set off alarms or complicating what was a clean and simple process.
