Why won't iTunes is not playing certain videos correctly?

Hi,

This is my first post on this forum so I'll try to keep it short.

Basically, when I import h264 videos into iTunes, the audio gets screwed up with an echo. This only happens after I pause it for any length of time.
When I play the same files in VLC the audio is perfect so I know it's something iTunes is doing.


What's weird though is that it's only recently started doing this. I've imported videos before and the audio has been fine. The image below is of several movies I have in my collection. The three on the left are ones that work fine, and the three on the right are the ones I get echoes with when I import them.

I'm at my wit's end. Google hasn't turned up anything even remotely helpful so I'm helping you guys can.

1. Before we start, this is no bug. It's a limitation. Sometimes I have to start with this because folk don't know that video ENCODING was never standardized so your files can be in some encoding that iTunes can't play or can't play well.

2. There is also some thousand plus choices on what to do next. For me I don't worry that iTunes can't play it if VLC Player can. You may be one of those that are not going to accept that.

3. OK, what to try? Google HANDBRAKE and try converting one for play on the iPad and the other what they call "profiles." This is not an offer to write a tutorial as that's all out there on the internet today.

Sorry but some folk are upset that this is such a mess but I didn't create the problem. If you want to discuss how we got here, I can only offer summaries.

I actually did figure out what the problem was. And i could use VLC if I needed to, its just easier to have everything in once place is all. I only need to move one folder to back everything up than to make sure I have everything consolidated.

I've used Handbrake before so that gave me the idea to try converting them. The issue was that when I would do so, the program (whether it was Handbrake or AVC) would cause a loss of quality that is unacceptable for me. What I ended up doing was finding a setting that was for iPad in AVC which could convert them at 720p. It works well enough that I can't complain and the movies look pretty good on the smaller screens.

So thank you for pointing me in the right direction! I'd give you a cookie if I knew you in real life!
