Suggestions about video editing software for Mac

I filmed a video about my mother's birthday party last week. Before sharing it to YouTube, I prefer editing the video on my Macbook pro to make it perfect. So I searched video editing software for Mac OS X on internet. There are many Mac video editing software programs available, but I don't know which one to choose. Can anyone give me some suggestion?
P.S. the video is in .avi format, and I want a simple program

I downloaded an easy to use video editing software for Mac.

iMovie is a good choice for Mac

But before using iMovie, you need to convert your avi file to some compatible format such as mp4, mov, m4v. You can use Any Video Converter Free for Mac(http://any-video-converter.com/products/mac_video_converter_freeware/) to do so.
