OK. My bad. What I want SMRecorder for is to capture screen video and audio. Audacity appears to be only an audio editor. Problem I am having is no sound when I capture video with the error "No audio device detected. Please chech your audio configuration.". It doesn't think my system has any sound capability.

System Specs:
Intel dual Core i5-2400@3.1 GHz, 8 GB ram, 64 bit OS Windows 7 SP1
Intel Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller, IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers
Video - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti Driver - 8.17.12.8026
Sound - NVIDIA HD Audio, Driver - 1.2.23.3
System built by Datel Systems, San Diego

There's a big clue. HD audio.

HD audio has a PROTECTED PATH in it. This is something of a well discussed area. My quick fix is to use a Y audio cable to loop it back to the aux input but sometimes that fails because HD audio is again "a protected path."

Microsoft had to protect HD content. It's a long story but those that never read about this may think the PC is defective or broke.

Sorry, my only workaround has been to record it with an analog system and merge it back later.
