What is the best way to transfer Mini DV footage onto a PC?

I want to transfer my footage from a Mini DV camera onto my computer to edit video. Please suggest the best way to do it in better way so that there should not be any damage to my recorded data.

And let's be sure you are aware of the sheer size of the DV data is such the person who asked this is usually floored by that amount of data.

Are you sure you have that much disk space for raw DV?

Example numbers are "a data rate of about 25 Mbit/s for video, and an additional 1.5 Mbit/s for audio."

So raw UNDAMAGED data is 26.5 million bits per second. An hour seems to be about 11.925 Gigabytes so most folk never use raw DV.
