Good question!

Actually it's because this is not a CCTV system, I was only looking to that software so I could have reliable feeds from 2 cams at once. I am doing some cognitive psychology research and have specific needs in terms of size and footage quality.

I'm using a particularly small webcam so I can get decent quality footage, but without taking up too much room (I have limited space on the equipment they will be mounted on)
I can get 30 fps on just one cam, but I need 2 cams to be capturing at the same rate. And for my needs, the higher the frame rate, the better.

To fix this I used two netbooks. As to the sync, the time stamps in the video are good enough and since our office is full of programmers that do video work, a custom app is not out of the question.

But there are a lot of folk that hope there is a ready made app for that.

I am into similar kind of research where i do not have access to highend recording cameras and software .

For your first need you can refer to open source Kinoveo Free Video Analysis Tool. Google it,I hope this will serve your purpose.

When you are talking about camera - it is better to get higher frame rates. As of now I have not been able to identify one for my need, but do let me know if you find one !!:)

I am planning to buy logitech C910 pro.
