If it doesn't work then I am afraid you might have to pay for an HD player (Corel or other). Good luck.

You may try VLC player, it's a free video player that supports AVCHD video.

VLC Player

I tried the VLC player today. It plays my non-HD files fine. But for HD (m2ts and mts) it plays the first second or 2, then the video freezes and the audio continues. After about 20 seconds, the video comes back for one frame and then freezes again.

Could it be that my processor is not fast enough?
How can I trouble shoot this?

THAT could be an encoding issue. To troubleshoot this is not fun. That is, I'd want to try it with BluRay player software such as PowerDVD.

I don't think there is anything unusual with the files. For months, I have been creating avchd videos with cyberlink power director. obviously, I can view them in power director, but I am looking for a program like windows media player that will play the m2ts files.

Windows Media Player gets it's HD player capability from what they call CODECs.

It appears you've confirmed it's an encoding/playback issue by telling us that it works in power director.

-> Glad to see you now see the problem.

For now, use power director to play as you work on learning more about video encoding and playback.

It maybe the cpu but I would go with a better video card instead. This computer have a HD capable video card?

Yes. I routinely create HD movies (AVCHD disks) with Cyberlink Power Director.

VLC is recommended for AVCHD playing, from above posts, you can find the download link. But it is not the best for its frequently freezing up. For playing MTS video fluently, the best way is to connect HD camera to HDTV. If you want play on PC with Windows Media Player V. 11, i think transcording but preserving quality is a good choice. and HD WMV is a good format. and Final mate is good transcoding software.

For AVCHD playing on windows, you can use VLC player. VLC supports mts, m2ts playback with high quality. If you want to use media player for playing m2ts/mts videos, you can convert it to wmv, avi, mp4, etc suitable format for WMP using Final Mate, camcorder asssitant software.

You can use a video converter to convert the video format to another can play with your media player.Or use this video converter to play your AVCHD video files ( m2ts and mts ), double click the software's preview window will play it full Screen.
