Trying to play videos on my laptop. Images blurry and slow

Sorry---new to forum and posted this request once already but not in correct forum. I have videos in my camer am trying to playback on my laptop and they are blurred and choppy with muffled sound. I have tried Windows Media Player, Realtime and just now Gom which has gotten the closest but still messsed up. What am I doing wrong? I opened control panel and adjusted speed but it made no difference. The files are .MP4 or that is how they are showng in the Gom file. Sorry-VEry novice about this stuff and lost , lost , lost...

VLC Media Player. It's a free Media Player that is compatible with many different file types. Here is the Website...

It supports many formats as following:.asf?.avi?.wmv ,MPEG1?.mpeg?.mpg?.m1v?.mp2 .wav?.snd?.au?.aif?.aifc?.aiff ?bmp?.jpg?.jpeg?.jpe?.jfif?.gif .mp3

I like it very much LOL
