copy tape to cd & make tracks, software needed

Hi, I am looking for a simple program that will allow me to separate 1 big file into many different tracks. I am trying to take tapes & convert them into CD's with each song on it's own track. Everything i want a simple user friendly software that doesn't have unnecessary bells & whistles for this project. Preferably free but i will take anything.

also sharpen the audio of my granddad & others & filter out the white noise in the background on the ones that need it. sorry if i missed an edit post button somewhere.

Tapes and LPs to CDs.....

Roughly 5 years ago I paid for a program called
"Wave Corrector", and IMHO it was worth every
penny, considering that ever since then all
upgrades to it have been free. Don't know if this
is still the company policy or not. I have made
many CDs from LPs, and a few cassette tapes.
The program offer many tweeks and filters
depending on the recording source, and in the
case of LPs does a pretty good job of making
separate tracks. If it misses a separation, it's
pretty easy to manually edit in another break.
You can also add song titles for each track.
Check it out.

There is a program called Audacity. It is a free audio editor that can record, edit, and save to mp3 for storage on your PC or to burn it to a CD. It can be downloaded from ( http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ ) Hope this helps!
