Greek subtitles problem

I recently reformatted my computer and installed windows xp sp3, the english version. As always, i downloaded vlc and i tried to watch a movie with greek subtitles (not embedded, in .srt). When i open vlc and load both the avi file and the subs i could only see some chinese letters that i do not understand... Can anyone help me out?

There seems to be more than one subtitle...

on this video. Go to video->subtitle->and select another, one of them should be the one you want if it is part of the movie.

Maybe i wasn't clear because i don't think you understood what i meant :S ... the movie had one subtitle only. And i tried it with many movies with greek subs... they all appear in wierd characters... :S :S maybe it has something to do with language settings? :S

that would be simple enough to try and or maybe also install java and pdf if that's not already install. Good luck.
