Laptop to TV HDMI problem

I recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 7, previously I had Vista Ultimate. On the old OS I was able to hook up my laptop to my TV with an HDMI cable and simply hit a button on my keyboard to flawlessly switch screens. For some reason, I am no longer able to do this with Windows 7. Now whenever I hit that button, nothing happens. Before a notification would pop up on my screen to tell me I am switching screens, and now that doesn't even show up. I'm wondering if I need to download any specific driver or something? I have an HP Pavilion DV7 with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. Thanks for any help.

After fooling around a bit I managed to get the video to work. But the sound still doesn't. I went into my sound settings and changed it to "ATI HDMI Audio Output" but it still doesn't work. I went into properties and I get this message "The Device You Are Configuring has been removed". How did that happen??
