volume control not loud enough with headphones?

Hello,
when I listen to music on my desktop computer with my headphones, it's not really loud enough. When I don't have headphones in, I can turn the volume on my speakers up really loudly. But with the headphones, if I turn the volume all the way up in both winamp, and the advanced volume control options, it's annoyingly quiet. Is there another program I can download maybe to control the volume? Before my computer crashed a few months ago, I had a problem where volume control wouldn't work at all, and I fixed it by using some other random program I found online, but I can't remember what it was.. thanks..

Your speakers have amplifiers built in, and they drive your speakers. The audio card in the computer cannot drive your headphones (they might if you have a Hi Impedence Phones). You plugin the phones to an earphone socket in your speakers if there's one, else get amplifiers for the headphones.

found a way around it!

Hey, I ended up investing in a new pair of headphones (Sony Bass Boost)... 30 dollars (yikes) but they increase the volume by at least double the amount. Thanks anyway!

I found a headphone amplifier device on Amazon for under $10. I ordered it but haven't received it yet. After reading reviews it seem to me that it should do the trick, and I can use whatever headphones I want.

a little late but found a solution

Hi,
I've been looking for a solution for this issue after I upgraded to windows 7 from vista. I updated my driver and now everything resolved. For the ones interested, you can download the executable file from the website http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/ you should click on the "High definition audio codecs (software)" and pick the one you want to download.
