Format for USB input to DVD portable Player

I have a Shinco SDP-1250 DVD portable player, all region and equipped with USB input. I tried to play DVD movies using a USB. The copied a DVD movie and converted to mp4 file format. I then inserted the USB to the DVD player and found the directory/file but I the movie will not play.

Could the Shinco SDP-1250 play mp4 movie format? Do the format need to be avi, divi or other movie format? Also, I am not certain about the directory. Do I copy the entire folder or just the movie (mp4 file)?

The spec. for the player says it will play mpeg4, divx, xvid

but it was not very specific as to which mpeg4 (mpeg4 comes in many forms. I would suggest that you encode the video with divx or xvid instead. Were you able to play the this mpeg4 file on its own screen (not using usb on the dvd player)? I am a bit confuse about copying the folder; Where do you want to copy it to, the computer or the TV or what?
