Deals and Bargains forum: Poll: Would you use Amazon lockers?

I have NOT bought things on Amazon because of the shipping cost. When I wasn't something I want it now. I use Amazon because I can usually find it cheaper. But it isby the time you add shipping, it is not such a deal anymore. I chose the immediate purchase over the wait if the cost is about the same.

Having said that, If Amazon raises the price of the item to compensate the brick and mortar store for the locker space, I probably wouldn't use it unless it was an item I couldn't find around my area.

I like this idea. I don't order much from Amazon but would consider it more often if the option to pick up at a local store like Staples (about a mile from my home and office) and save a few dollars on shipping. It makes sense to have these at retail stores so that the store can benefit from bringing potential shoppers into the store but I thinking the USPS should think about jumping on board. With at least one location in just about every town and probably extra space because of the downturn in mail usage over the past couple of decades not to mention their need to monetize their operation better it would seem like a logical fit. But I guess this begs the question how does it get monetized. Does Amazon pay the retailer or is the retailer just relying on feet in the store to cover the cost?

Maybe, if the locker is close to my house I would use it.

I have never purchased from Amazon, I have no plans to ever waste my money, by giving it to Amazon. They are overpriced, low value, mass marketers of crap. The Walmart of the internet. I do not buy "made in CHINA" crap. If it is made in China, I just don't buy it.

So it "appears" that Amazon is going to give you something COOL, right? This is the same theme that the new president of this country pulled on all stupid people of the US. Look, you can't give something without taking something from somewhere else. The universe has all components already in place. You take one and give one. Unless you change the play ground. That's what atomic bombs do; they blast some good particles and bust it into million of crummy low quality parts. TRUE! there are now more crummy parts to share. Anyway, look for the big picture. Very simply, Amazon is getting ready to raise prices and they want to give you a low quality choice. So they give you a week or two delivery at your local Staples. Young people are easy targets for old dog tricks, LOL and yes I did not vote for the new president. I pray for this country, that I get to eat crow. "Nuff said".

I would buy more from Amazon Vendors if they were included in the program. As has already been stated sometimes their shipping charges are a deal breaker.

If this development were to mean the end of the "spend $25 and ship free" policy, I would be far less likely to order from Amazon.

Yes! I use site-to-store wherever available because at times the s&h is more than the item I am buying. Makes no sense. I love the "locker" idea!

AFAIK Amazon has stopped fighting to avoid paying sales taxes. This is an end run to keep sales up, along with adding the same day delivery service in some places, stemming from them adding distribution centers.

Does anyone know if Amazon Lockers is a separate entity? If not, and this ultimately depends on the minutiae of the deal, a lot of states might eye using this as an avenue to go after sales tax on Amazon purchases.

As far as I can see, these locker locations are not accepting deliveries as the customer's agent, like say, a Mailboxes-type store. Amazon is paying them for the privilege of placing their own equipment in that location's space. Looks like nexus to me, at least enough to go to court. Mucho dineros of state revenue on the line here.
If I'm remembering my stuff correctly, once a company has nexus in a state, sales tax will apply to all the company's sales delivered to that state, regardless of whether they go to a locker or not.

The info on Amazon about Lockers doesn't refer to any tax considerations.

In many urban areas, hoping your package arrives safely can be quite hit or miss. This applies especially to many apt dwellers who don't have adequate secure package/delivery rooms, etc. I can see how in some places this will be popular if the walgreen's (etc.) on the corner facilitates the delivery vs having to wonder which sketchy neighbor swiped your amazon box(!)

Re-read the article. It's merely a retailer that has currently elected to partner w/ Amazon for this service. Others will be on board too, also not necessarily limiting to items they sell in their brick/mortar operations.

I have never had anything damaged in shipping from Amazon-- ever, and I've been using them for a very long time. I also find their return shipment policies to be fast and efficient. I am sorry to hear that you have had problems.

Only extreme liberals feel that Amazon abuses their workers as such. It's most certainly nothing compared to very typical labor situations in the third world.
