Replacing mouse / keyboard for Win 95 system

I have an old HP Pavilion purchased back in 2000 running Win 95. I no longer have mouse / board. PC has two PS/2 6 pin ports and one USB. Can I get by buying a new keyboard (any brand etc) or new mouse using USB-PS/2 adapter or one? Should the adapter be colored and match those of the ports? The PC will not recognize my current USB keyboard (which used for a game console and Mac Mini),

Check at yard sales, Goodwill, etc., what you need is a PS-2 hook up, USB isn't going to fly w/Win 95. The keyboard hook up is generally purple and the mouse is green. You MIGHT be able to get them to fly with a conversion adapter, USB to PS-2 which you should be able to purchase at most tech/box stores.
