2007 Outlook and BB Bold 9650

I just purchased the BB Bold 9650, and Verizon told me Outlook and BB have problems synching. I noticed on the forums before, some were speaking about 2010 Outlook having problems...does Outlook 2007 have similar issues?
Also, does anyone know whether you need the additional data package from Verizon, at $45 per month to be able to sync Outlook with BB, without losing the calendar history on the laptop each time you sync?
Or, should the basic data package work fine? What are the pros and cons of each data package?

I write apps for some cell phones and ALL the sync issues I encounter come down to 2 camps. One is user error and the other is "that never worked."

Today I would go with Outlook 2010 and if it fails I know the sync issue will be cured RSN (real soon now.) I would not want to install 2007 and then deal with possible migration headaches later.
