52 LCD (LN52A750) as a monitor for Home Ent / Web Browsing

Hi - newbie here asking for help from the expert crowd.....I just bought a Samsung 52 LCD (750) and want to use it as home ent display (home movies, web browse, tv). I was planning on using a mac mini + dig cable box as the platforms until a gent a the apple store told me last night that the mac mini wont really support more than a 30", and at a max of 42, the image isnt good. I was heartbroken since I was hoping to use iLife (im not good with this stuff). Given that I will likely have to go the PC route and I dont have a high budget, can anyone offer advice as to a processor/RAM/video-card or specific pc line to a)support this as a display b)burn dvds and also a good video editing software (home movies for dummies)? Any opinions on the Dell Hybrid?
