who's monitoring big brother
its all very well to say theyre going to hire a company to monitor what the kids are posting etc, but I find it very scary. who are these people? is it going to be a body corporate of the school? who's going to monitor that the policing agent does not abuse their power.
to me it is too much like a police state. everything you say is going to be monitored, what you say could be taken out of context and the next thing you know youre expelled from school for an innocuous post - just ask dr phil and he's an adult with experience on how to communicate. by just putting words in the wrong order can change the meaning from harmless to insulting.
what should be done in life orientation in school is teaching children to cope and manage and report cyber bullying, foul language or just general bad behaviour. we as parents try to do this but what was true in my day is still true today - the kids don't take their parents seriously because of the nature of teenagers and parents.
what works is getting 20-25 year olds who have been cyber bullied or who have made stupid comments on facebook to recount their regrets and/or coping skills.
seriously employing a company to monitor the kids is the start of a very slippery slope and I predict no good will come of it.
