One more reason not to trust the cloud

Slingplayer servers have been up/down for several days now. Multiple threads in their forums complain that logging on and off the application is hit and miss. Apparently the software needs to log on every time you start it....Can you say "single point of failure"

No real explanation from Slingplayer on what is going on.

Wow, that is a mind full of issues.

Look at glorious failures of the past attempts to go "cloud." Danger put your stuff in danger recently -> http://www.precentral.net/living-cloud-dangerous-just-ask-sidekick-owner

And look at the old "thin client" attempts.

-->> On a personal note I was on the other side of world and the cloud was sometimes there.

My thought is to let others risk their businesses on the cloud. We'll stay old school and new school. That is we'll use both!

Theres infact a trend for a move against the cloud. Having local software that communicate via the cloud, without using the cloud as a platform. I think this is a positive direction, make better use of what local hardware can do. More consistent easier UIs than web pages too.
