Best mp3 player/sofware combination for podcasts (my way)?

All that I have on my mp3 player are podcasts, and I listen to them during my commute (45 min each way) and when I run/walk. I listen to a number of podcasts - some daily (like BOL) and some weekly and like to listen to them mixed together in chronological order. The problem is that I teach college, so with breaks, etc., I'm always behind on my podcasts.Right now I have an iRiver Clix (old, and the battery is dying). I use iTunes as my catcher, create a playlist in iTunes, switch to WMP, create a playlist there, copy the songs from iTunes to WMP, and then sync the Clix. I need a new player, but don't need (and can't afford) the extra features of a Zune or iPod Touch - just a basic player that has a small display (no video needed) and when it starts, plays where I left off when I turned it off. Any suggestions? Also, any suggestions on a better, less cumbersome way to catch/transfer podcasts? Thanks in advance.
