I actually think forking matters a lot with the mainstream

consumer. Google needs to watch this closely or it may come back to bite them in the butt.

Android that comes in 50 different flavors is no longer a platform for which developers can write apps. It may all be called "Android" but for all practical purposes its just 50 different OS's once its fractured that much.
