Buzz Out Loud Lounge forum: Win7 to come with ad supported MS Office. thoughts?

Office is way too expensive for home users, so most pirate it. This sounds like a more treasonable business model that gets Microsoft revenue from more people. But if it's a cut down office, will it be enough?

When I had a computer store, probably 75% of the customers would have been fine/had all their home computing needs met perfectly well with Works, particularly once there was the Home Essentials version that included Word. So $300 for Office was overkill and wasteful.

But almost every one of them thought Office came with a computer and some of them thought that I was trying to put something over on them by saying Office cost extra. That's the glory of getting such market penetration--if you see something everytime you get on a computer, then you assume it will be on any computer you ever get.

So, to answer the question--it depends on how much they cut it down, but I bet this lesser versoin of Office will actually have more than enough for most people but that most people will still spend some more $s to get the whole thing anyway.

The idea is a valid one for those who insist on using Microsoft Office as their default document management environment but with so many alternatives to MsOffice, why bother? If you are in an corporate environment, such as I, your company will supply the MsOffice application for you. If you need to manipulate MsOffice documents without paying the high ridiculous Microsoft prices, then take another look at these alternatives.

its a good competitor but after trying SO HARD to use OO I just couldnt MSO is just sooooo much better imho lol, ESPECIALLY powerpoint.
