Social network shorthand standard

Hi everyone,

I have a proposal that I want to put out to you all first.

I want to know whether introducing a shorthand standard for referring to major social network sites could be useful to all. The main reason, is so that we can identify these social networks no matter how long or short their names are by a few letters. It also saves our fingers typing too much.

This is done similar to what the ISO do to countries.

So this is how it works.

First we define the 'major' social networks by a trusted list e.g. Webware 100. Then we assign a two/three letter code to each of them.

Not all social networks are included, otherwise this is pointless. Because we all know the rate of creation of social networks these days!

So, some examples of this at work are:

Myspace - MS/MYS
Facebook - FB/FBO
Twitter - TW/TWI
Flickr - FL/FLI
Dopplr - DP/DPL
LiveJournal - LJ/LJN

And so on...

Please let me know what you all think. If this is a good idea, it probably could work well of business cards!

Absolutely, social network shorthand standard are very famous such facebook, Twitter, flickr etc. The social networking site is an act of engagement. Groups of people with common interests, likes-minds, associates together on social networking sites and builds relationship through community.
