Man set afire likely due to taser incident...

If the San Angelo Police would have a better understanding of technology (http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewpr.html?pid=22879) perhaps they wouldn't have tasered a guy who doused himself in gasoline...

I just find this really unfortunate and disappointing...

Okay, I'll step back a bit here. Can anyone here provide some technical insight on whether a taser can set gasoline on fire?...

It just seems like an obvious cause-and-effect to me, but then again I don't know what the details of the taser's electric impulses are like.

Tazers send an electrical current through their victim. Electricity can cause electrical sparks. Sparks can cause fires. Gas is flammable. Thus a tazer can cause gas to burst into fire.

He was threatening to burn himself and his house on fire which would have possibly injured others.

He probably resisted arrest (worst mistake ever).

Cooperate with the police and you won't get tasered and possible set on fire. Also, don't douse yourself in gasoline.

...while using a cellphone or any spark-generating device - at least in MY state, this would seem obvious. But I guess common sense is an oxymoron. (I once saw someone talking on their phone wth a cigarette dangling from their mouth while pumping gas!) Maybe these folks use aerosol cans for target practice too.
The line between "Cops" & "Reno911" is getting thinner everyday. <sigh>
