Planet Earth in HD. Which format to go with ...

I caught the first few episodes of Planet Earth on Discovery Channel and got hooked. I couldn't watch all the episodes, but since the DVD's released today, I figured I could purchase the DVD collection and enjoy all 10 hours in my own time.

Problem is, I really want to see it the way it was meant to be seen - in high definition. The series has been released in both blu-ray and hd-dvd. I really want to watch it in high-def, but I can't get over the fear of picking a format and finding out in a year that it's the losing one.

I wouldn't mind downloading it online such as the xbox live marketplace (I do own an Xbox 360). But as of yet, there are no plans on bringing any Discovery Channel content onto Live Marketplace.

Any suggestions?

Since you already have the XBOX 360, I'd recommend going with the HD DVD format. Then when you buy the external HD DVD player, you can watch it like that whenever you want.

In the mean time, you can watch it on cable (I've got 5 episodes on my Comcast DVR). Or you can check them out from your local library?

HD DVD ad-on

The HD DVD ad-on for the xbox 360 ain't a bad idea. At 200 bucks ($150 on some sites) it's affordable. But again, I'm just worried about getting locked into one format.

I don't have a DVR so I can't record any of the episodes. All I want to do is watch the shows in HD. If there is any way to download them legally, that would be best . .

but the HD DVD ad-on is definitely up there in my list of viable options
