Personal VPN question

Not sure where to post this...but I'm sure a fellow Buzztonian (Buzz- towner?) can point me in the right direction.

I've started to travel more for my job. On some trips, I take my personal laptop along with me. While my "work" laptop has a VPN client on it, I was thinking it may be a good idea to get a personal VPN client on my personal laptop for use in hotels, airports, etc. Does anyone have any experience with any products/services like that? I've seen Witopia is one.

Any comments/suggestions or other pearls of wisdom are appreciated.

There are several possibilities here. the two I know about are

1) you want to connect to your home network and go out to the internet through that

2) you want to anonymize your web use on the road.

These are different problems. For the first you need some kind of vpn. Under free vpn solutions there are hamachi(easiest i think) and others like ssl-explorer(more functions). There are paid solutions like goto my pc.

For the second, there are several services that will anonymize your web use. Torpark has free and paid services for this. There are others.

Twit podcast *security now* had several shows discussing these issues in depth a while ago. go to http://www.grc.com/securitynow.htm look at episodes 14 - 19.

Personally, I use ssl-explorer and hamachi to create vpns to home. As I said earlier hamachi is the easiest. I use free torpark on the road, which can be maddeningly slow -- you get what you pay for.
