HELP why cant my xbox 360 detect my computer

i am trying to stream music and videos from my PC to my xbox using an Ethernet cable that is connecting my PC and 360 i am using windows media player 11 to share the files. wmp11 will recognize my xbox 360 and i have allowed media to be shared to my xbox with the only problem being that my 360 won't recognize my computer even though it's connected directly to it and my computer recognize it. whenever i go to play music i get the "no computer's running media sharing software detected" message can somebody please help me

Most common cause for these problems: Incorrectly configured firewall.

A quick test is to first disconnect from the Internet, then turn the firewall off and see if your 360 can detect your computer. If it does, you'll need to figure out what is wrong with your firewall settings. If it doesn't, then you've got some other problem to pin down and fix. Also, be sure to bring the firewall back up before you reconnect to the Internet.

In that case, you're going to have to go through the tedious effort of sifting through all of your network and file sharing settings, and look for anything that might be the cause.

It's not something anyone can really do remotely, so unless you know someone you can call up to come over and help, you're on your own.

However, I would strongly recommend trying to post in the Xbox-Scene forums. They tend to be a bit more lively than this one, and they might even have some kind of HOWTO on setting this all up you can follow.

i just went to my control panel and clicked network and internet connection and did the whole network setup wizard thing now it work's with TVersity but i still dont know if it works with windows media player 11
