EA Sports NHL '08, lame question

I have a PS3 and am not a gamer, I have only one game, that listed above.

I want to know how to win faceoffs. It's not in the manual. I've tried various buttons and combos of buttons but keep getting schooled.

And it's impossible to improve on them because I cannot figure out what's supposed to work.

I don't believe I'm a complete moron as I fare well in all other aspects of the game.

but from what i remember you use the right (or left) analog stick
