PS2 Component Video Cable

Hi guys,

I have a PS2, the big one, and just bought a Monster Gamelink 400, which is a component cable for the PS2. I connected it to my SHARP Aquos LCD TV, and it does not work at all, or it gives the message " incompatible with this type of signal"

Does anyone know what could be wrong here??

Start with the TV setting.
Sometimes they are not set up to read the component signal.
Don't remember the if the PS2 needs any setting to be adjusted.
Could have a bad cable.

First, did you change the settings on the PS2 BEFORE connecting the cable? You need to make sure to change the PS2 to using component output first.

The other potential problem is that the PS2, even the newer slim ones, will assume a 4:3 aspect ratio TV. Games have to individually support a 16:9 aspect ratio. So if the TV is expecting a 16:9, and maybe even progressive scan, signal but is getting 480i instead, it could be having a bit of a fit.

Also, just to be sure, you know for a fact that your TV supports component input and that you've connected the cables correctly? You've double checked all of this?

Thanks for your input. Yeah, the LCD TV certainly has component and I checked all connections. I didnt quite get your point about changing the settings of the PS2, from where exactly can it be changed?

PS2 Options

The options should be located in the PS2's browser that is brought up when the unit is turned on without a game being inserted, or can be accesed by pushing X on the controller before the game starts up.

Hi Burthealey/ Hi Jimmy,

Thanks to all of you, it finally worked. I went, as you said, in the settings of the PS2 ( i.e. without a disc) and changed the video output from RGB to component.

It worked perfectly, colors and sharpness are undescribable compared to regular/composit video.

Colors Messed Up

You guys are complete life savers here! I was ecstatic when I finally got everything appearing on the screen, but when it did none of the colors looked right. The red is way down or something. Any ideas? My DVD player runs through a component video feed just fine. I'm so frustrated!
