Games & gear forum: Poll: Parents: Do you play video games with your kids?

I have been playing video games with my kids and grandkids for over 20 years. I recently have been playing Halo3 on XBox 360 with my grandson, Tyler. We also play on XBox. I have completed games such as Far Cry, Splinter Cell, James Bond, Halo, Halo2 etc. We also had a blast with the Wii console games. Mostly bowling and baseball.

My kids are late teenagers (one is 17, one turns & 20 tomorrow) and have out played me for years due to quicker reflexes, etc. ... I just can't compete anymore. Bummer because some of the games are/were really quite fun!

My kids are older and are pretty hardcore gamers. So I get a comfy seat and play armchair quarterback. I love it when they play live its a lot of fun. I get into the story lines and strategies. I don't have the ability to play on that level but I can watch it intelligently.

I do not have kids. I don't have a special someone yet either, so it a good thing I don't have kids yet. And I think I'm still too young for grandkids could even be possible.

I'm a gamer at heart, and the first game my son has shown any real interest in is Lego Star Wars for the PSP and now the PS3 (we bought both because he loved the PSP game so much). He absolutely loves it, and the puzzle solving in the game is fantastic for developing logic skills. When he started out he couldn't figure anything out and was constantly asking for help, and a month later he was figuring out complicated puzzles on his own. I highly recommend this game as a very good starter game for kids, and it's great fun for me too.

My son and I have also been playing the new Burnout Paradise game demo on the PS3 as well, and that game has been great fun for us.

The reason I think the best value lies in the PS3 is because it has things for kids and adults, gamer and non gamer alike. The PS3 happens to be the BluRay movie player and best high definition movie player period at the moment. So even if you don't game, and your kids do, you can get use out of the system as a high def movie player for your HDTV, and the picture is nothing short of spectacular. I mean, it's really great. I'm a movie buff, and a gaming buff, so this machine is just the ultimate for me, and I've never been happier with a piece of electronics.

The PS3 also happens to be the best picture viewing device if you have an HDTV. Nothing beats a crystal clear 46" view of your pictures. Nothing.

The Wii is the best i've found since playing with my older children,24-20 and now the 4 year old. Everyone who has come to our home have had a blast. ARemember to buy rechargeable batteries for last years model.

We're a multigenerational gaming house! From grandparents to grandkids we all love to play and I must say that the Wii we got last Christmas facilitates that beautifully. Even MY grandparents are up for a Wii game night when they visit with the great-grandkids. Our favorite to date is Mario Party 8 - we know we're always headed for lots of laughs & plenty of field leveling fun. There's no telling who will win: the 7 yr old? the 33 year old? the 54 year old? or even the 72 year old (when visiting)? My husband & son love the PC Star Wars LEGO games and now that we have the Complete Saga for Wii... I'm not sure I'm happy with them taking over the livingroom every night! Mario Galaxy (and Billy the Wizard, too) is headed to a stocking by the chimney and it get here soon enough!
