Small business forum: Startup Computer Repair: Questions

On your shop ideas would you, could you try to value your customer's data files?

I know many that would value a shop that would save the customer's files. And you can fetch a premium for that.

I personally started a company that does computer repairs however, we are more diverse. We do all low voltage stuff, which is a tremendous thing in this economy. If you don't have the space (which we don't either) you may consider using a storage facility to put components and parts etc... I know for us that because we're willing to pick up the pc, the customers are more apt to work with us. Also, you may want to attempt to get into doing desktop support for smb's. In my opinion you've got to be mobile to beat out the big box stores with the geeks and stuff... You can do it, and don't give up and you'll succeed, that's one thing I know for sure. Just be diverse in your thinking and approach.

Things to consider for IT related business is focus on service rather than products. If your going to work from home, can you do some remote assistance using tools like GotoAssist and VNC etc..

Maybe offer a pickup and return service, this again will help mask the size of the business and keep it professional while offering a different and great service.
