Intel Dual & Quad Core

I understqnd what Dual and Quad Core is but I object to the use of the term core in discribing a processor or in this case multiple processors. The term core evolved from the use of ferrite core in first generation computers, i.e. IBM 704,705,709... and is described in most publications as obsolete. This reapplication of core to identify a silicon semiconductor is incorrect.

Ferrite core memory

Since Intel was originally started by IBM who for many years held a majority share position the identification of core memory should be easily resolved by asking Big Blue.

However, a more important question is since most programs are a serial process how does Intel Dual or Quad Core enhance (speed up) a CPU. Granted some of the many processes of the Windows monster can take advantage of the multiprocessing features offered by the Dual & Quad Core concept. But in most instances this will amount to no more than a 25% increase in throughput although most single users will not recognize any substantial processing gains from this "new" technology.
