Moving your programs files to external hard drive

I recently purchased a 250gb external hard drive from IOMEGA. I have a Dell Dimension 8300 O/S XP 80gb. I would like to move all of my program files to the external hard that way i have more free space in my computer. can i do this without causing a problem?

In most cases the programs will fail to work if you move them like that because the registry and shared system files would still be pointing to the C:\ drive. Your best bet is to simply uninstall the software and then reinstall it, but during installation select the 'custom' option and change the installation directory. It's the only way to guarantee it won't all go south.
