folders turned into files (160gb fat32 with win2k sp2...)

i forgot that i had only installed sp2 on my old win2k pc an plugged my 160gb samsung hdd with a fat32 into it.
now chkdsk crashed the file system and half of the folders are only 16kbyte files !!!
there are some important folders so iam trying everything to restore these folders.
at first i made an image before working on the hdd.

chkdsk doesnt have any undo option, how to reverse these errors?!!
is there some way to just change these files back to folders? the disk space is still in use.
easy recovery finds a lot of folders but theres no way to be sure that hell restore all the files in it, thats why i wanna try some other ways before using easy recovery...

This may no longer be relevant, but for anyone experiencing the same or similar problem, my post on Tech Support Forums might help:

The process is complicated and could be very time consuming, but may be well worth it for very important files. Proceed with caution. Good luck!
