Hi,
I am planning to buy a new cellphone. I am not sure which one should I buy. My two options are iPhone and HTC Touch Pro.
I like the wealth of Apps from iPhones but not so much the on screen keyboard.
HTC Touch Pro, I love the Outlook and office apps integration and QWERTY keyboard.
Also is this the right time to buy a cell phone, I don't mind waiting for a month or few weeks if a new cellphone is about to launch.
Can the forum readers please offer your insights and help me pick one (or any new phone suggestions).
Thanks in advance.
If you are comparing the Fuze to the iPhone (assuming you are limiting yourself to ATT offerings), ask yourself how much time you want to spend 'tweaking' any particular handset to get it working the way you like. In this sense, I'd only recommend a Windows Mobile device if you don't mind the more involved configuration that is required. Out of the box it's nowhere near as user friendly as the iPhone. While I love my ATT Tilt and the myriad of different apps & custom ROMs available, the user (especially web browsing) experience is arguably better on the iPhone. Regardless, I like to have more control over a device, and I also like the fact that the Tilt (& Fuze) have memory card expansion and a full keyboard. To each his/her own, I suppose. If you want to learn more about modifying & configuring PDA type handsets such as the various HTC offerings, check out XDA forums & howardforums.com. At least this way you get a sense of what's possible compared to the iPhone.

Hi balajionline,
I'd definitely go for the HTC Touch Pro 2. It is the new model that was recently introduced---but it isn't available yet. You can see it on HTC's website here: http://www.htc.com/www/product/touchpro2/overview.html.
I'm on Verizon and they still only have the HTC Touch Pro (original model). But I expect them to offer the new model soon.
Curiously, you've chosen two phones that are from different networks. The iPhone is presently available only on AT&T. The HTC Touch Pro is only available on Verizon/Alltel and Sprint. However, Apple is rumored to be working on a CDMA version of the iPhone for the Verizon network. Time will tell...
Selecting a mobile phone can be highly personal. Begin by determining which networks/carriers provide good coverage and capacity in your area. Then make a list of the features you want. Finally, go to local store(s) and try out the phones. Test each of the features on your list and decide which phone you like the best. There's no substitute for hands-on testing.
Best regards, WiredNot
I am planning to use Sprint as my carrier if I were to buy the HTC Touch Pro phone. I will wait to see which carrier comes up with the version 2.
For now I think i will go with HTC Touch. I wish there were great application support for Windows Mobile phones.
Thanks all for detailed responses, please chime in if you have more insights.
WinMo has an absolutely massive set of supported apps, plus a whole slew of apps that you will never find on other mobile operating systems. Not sure what you mean exactly. Plus, there are extremely active user forums such as XDA which you should definitely check out to help unlock the hidden features of your HTC device when you buy it.

Pedro, thanks for the reply.
I am totally unaware of the massive app support for WM phones you are referring to. Can you send some pointers to the same.
I have decided to wait for HTC Touch Pro 2 to arrive in the US, hopefully Sprint. It's really awesome, just the kind of phone i need.
Which apps in particular? Please understand the very general nature of your question. You can use MS Office mobile as one basic example of a supported app/suite. I first suggest you read a lot more on both the WM platform and HTC devices in general using the links I provided as a starting point. It takes some time to become familiar with any new complex piece of hardware/software/OS.
Also, keep in mind Sprint may never actually get the touch pro 2. YMMV.

I was comparing the app resource we have for Windows Mobile phones are very limited compared to the wealth of apps we have for iPhone or for G1 for that fact.
Microsoft ofcourse will have MS products integrated
but thats not all.
If you factor in all the duplicitous apps in the Apple app store, it's a draw. G1 OTOH is nowhere near as well supported as Windows Mobile. Sorry, not sure where your facts are on this very recent OS.
G1 may not be a better comparison for now, but they seem very agressive when it comes to apps list months down the line.
Windows Mobile apps are no where close to the iPhone apps.Compare few apps from this list to WM apps

Honestly WM has a long way to go when it comes to apps. ![]()
If I were you, I'd focus on the former rather than the latter. How many 'farting' apps (only available via the app store, btw) does the user really need? Also, I am still not enamored with Apple's lockdown of third party apps. This is where WinMo has a massive advantage that I was getting at (you totally miss the boat here- time to brush up). Anyone can write and distribute their own apps for WinMo. Companies & individuals can get their foot in the door much easier this way. I would like similar control over my device, thank you very much
In this sense, I see Android as a better choice for many 'power users' ahead of Apple's mobile OS.

Apple brings better quality apps by this locked environment, ofcourse 3rd party apps can get their apps in App Store.
This also would guarantee the apps are of high quality and no memory leaks or crashes or even compromise security/phishing.
I was blown off by this app G-Park from PosiMotion, which takes a photo of your parking spot, embed its GPS coordinates and can give turn-by-turn directions to your car ![]()
While it's true anyone can write Win MO apps but there is not a lot of interest around folks.

Hi Friend,
Your planing is best and your selection is also standard choice. Your two options are iPhone and HTC Touch Pro.
Here, i suggest HTC Touch Pro because HTC have too much extra business level facility and more functionality. And i am also use this HTC Touch Pro.
So, don't bother about your selection, choose one HTC and enjoy yourself.
In iPhone have touch screen problem and also keyboard problem. Today onward is the right time to buy phone.

Phone is the best in every field.
iPhone Wi-Fi is superb and remote access feature is awesome.
Its clearly mentioned on App store that you must reset your iphone after installing any app but lot of people dont do it and then complain about crashing and
I have noticed lot of people have jailbroken it n installed many crappy apps and when it starts giving trouble they restore it and take it to Apple store for replacement.
And few people just hate for no apparent reason.
I got my first iPhone in July,2007 ever since it has never faltered. I then got another one iPhone 3G and my old iPhone is still working like new. It still has amazing battery life.
Recent survey says 77% people are fully satisfied with iPhone which is highest of all time for any phone in the world.
