i'm graduating with a finance degree this december. i'm lucky because i most likely have a job in a nearby big (relatively) city as a "financial services professional" for a massmutual sales company which basically means i'll be selling life insurance and also acting as a full service CFP- depending on which one i sell more of.
i'm excited and currently looking for a phone to get when i move out of my parents house early next year. i need something with great internet, email- all that. There's lots of great phones for that out there but one thing i really want is some good sales apps to keep up with clients and keep myself organized.
the phone that i know will work is the iphone. i would pretty much pick it and call it a day except for one thing: while at&t does have 3g coverage in the aforementioned big city, it only has edge in my hometown where i could potentially have many clients to visit with. i've used an iphone on the edge network and it's definitely something i'd like to avoid.
verizon does have 3g in my hometown so i've looked around for a comparable smartphone for verizon (with tons of apps for sales and other such things). the front runner right now is the Motorola Droid- i love the screen and i've heard that android has just as many good apps as the iphone. i've thought about blackberry but i like the touchscreen+physical qwerty keyboard combo of the droid.
i'm sure tons of topics are created around about this topic (this is obviously my first post here) but i wanted to get some advice for my needs in particular. thank you for any advice.
If you are in a finance related industry, you will have better luck finding supported apps on a WM handset. Droid is still too new out of the gate IMNSHO. I'd look at a Touch Pro 2, Imagio or possibly the Ozone first. You might want something ideally that does not require you travel far and wide to find the slightest shred of support vs something with a WATS line or corporate email for help as needed.
Are you certain your future employer won't simply provide you with a blackberry, corporate email & supported apps, which is really common of late(?) Or is it more likely as a CFP you'll have to supply that stuff yourself with an employer subisidy(?)

its unlikely that i will be provided with a cell phone- at least they haven't mentioned it. the position is of the contractor, all-commission variety. they, of course, provide an office so it is possible they also provide a cell phone. i just haven't heard anything about it.
thanks for the help. it's still going to be at least 4-5 months before i get this phone so i'll have time to see if android takes off ad furthermore check the available apps for each.
Check out the TP2 and see what it can do, and how it feels in your hand. I'll post a few links later to some sites that deal w/ WM apps. You unfortunately won't be seeing much in that short time frame on the Droid.
