Hi,
Earlier today my computer had regcleaner used on it. The person doing it did not understand that it would wipe out all my reg files.
thank god he saved them in a back up.
However, as it stands now I can do very little with anything on my system. I don't know how to rework things to get regcleaner back up so I can restore all my keys.
Almost every link (programs) simply goes a lighter shade of color when I click on them.
I think if I can get back into regcleaner that I should be able to restore the backups through it and get things back to normal.
But how do I do that?.....anyone got any suggestions as to what to do?
novice here so please be kind and give descriptions to what I got to do.
thanks
I am running windows XP pro.
Have you tried System Restore? Or will this also not run? Joe
notta
I can't launch any programs other then explorer and my mail.
It keeps saying create an association in the folder oprions control panel.
I can access that but might as well be greek to me. I don't know what those are. I tried looking down this list that came up in the box for "Regcleaner" thinking if I associate that program then I could open it and restore the rest.
I tried "last known config" "safe mode" and tried downloading regcleaner again thinking I could just repair it and use it....notta.
hope ya can help me out. I got class in AM and major report due......argh. pulling my f@#$ing hair out. lol
thanks
Bill
You can use System Restore back to yesterday and all your registry should be reverted back to full working condition.
You may have to use Safe Mode to run it.
Or try booting from the Last Known Good Configuration.
BTW, which RegCleaner was used? jv16PowerTools?
did all the above and no go
did not try system restore in safe mode but will soon done typeing this.
4.2 version
some yahoo "friend" put it on for me and another decided I needed more disk space.....grrrr lol
thanks
Run System File Checker which will replace any corrupt system files.

yahhhooooooo
thanks David I did a restore right from start up screen and set it back to earlier time.
oh damn this scarred hell out me....
.
boy did I screw up
I did the restore and everything came back fine but I noticed there still somethings that I could recover.
I went back into the system restore and choose a time period when I first lost all my reg files from regcleaner.
Now I can't get F8 to take me into safe mode on the launch and can't access any of my programs to make it work.
Is there another way to do a system restore?
You appear to have a corrupt OS which system restore wasn't able to fix.
Did you try running System File Checker as suggested in my earlier post with the link on how to do that?
There are several options left:
1. If your programs' exe cannot run here is a link for the fix:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Look at item # 12 EXE Fix for Windows XP.
2. You may have to do a repair installation of XP.
See this link:
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
.
See these links:

Try System File Checker. You will need the Windows XP Pro CD to complete.
1. Go to START ... RUN
2. enter in:
SFC /scannow (be sure to include the space
between SFC and / )
3 At some point you will be prompted to put your CD
into the drive. Do this, and just let the SFC
run. Ignore options from the CD running.
4. When it completes, reboot. This will restore
Windows protected files to the original state.
ALSO be sure to have the internet open. The
process will allow DYNAMIC UPDATING for windows.
GOOD LUCK
