I am very frustrated with Spyware Doctor as it has completely corrupted my system. After reading reviews on various virus apps, I selected Spyware Doctor primarily due to the "excellent" reviews it rec'd from CNET and Tucows.
After downloading it to my Dell, Win 2000 notebook, it immediately started sending cookie alerts and then automatically shutting IE and restarting my system. Even after I have turned it off, it still will not allow me to use IE, as it automatically shuts down and reboots.
I have sent THREE urgent emails to PC-Tools tech support requesting their assistance. I have attempted to contact them by phone, but there is no listing for the company in San Francisco (they show Embarcadero One as their address). Lastly, Element5 (the company that took my credit card payment) is a foreign company with no way to contact them either.
I am furious as SPYWARE DOCTOR has rendered my business computer useless for nearly a week now and no on from the company is contacting me to resolve the problem that their software caused.
Does anyone know how to contact tech support for Spyware Doctor, or does anyone even know if this is a legitimate company?? PLEASE RESPOND...am in dire need of technical assistance to restore my computer to operating order!
Thank you!!!!
Have you tried uninstalling Spyware Doctor completely, instead of just turning it off?
Or have you tried restoring to a date and time "before" you installed Spyware Doctor?
If so, what happened?
Mark
Is it possible to restore to a previous date and time on Windows 98? I have been attacked by a virus that will not allow me to resolve names when trying to get online. I can get online but my computer will not resolve the url name so I am hoping to go back in time.
Johnny
There is no "System Restore" or "last good configuration" with Win 98. However, you can revert your registry to the previous 3 or 5 days or so...Post at the Win 98 forum. This may help, but you have to be quick.
Win98 has a remember 5 restore points
You might want to read up on this.
Mark
One person said to use system restore, on Windows 98 there is no such thing.
To restore your registry in 98 you repeatedly press F8 as the computer boots until you see a black screen with a menu with white lettering. Use the arrow keys to select Command prompt only and press enter. You will then see ''C:\>''. At this point type in the following exactly as shown and then press enter:
scanreg /restore
You will see a blue screen with five backup registrys to choose from. Using the arrow keys again pick one with a date before you installed "blank" and press enter. This will restore a previous registry.
After spending an hour on the phone with Tech Support (they finally did call me)...I was no better off than before (they couldn't solve the problem).
I ended up uninstalling Spyware Doctor, but whatever "damage" it created with my IE browser still exists, even after the uninstall.
I ended up downloading the new version (7.2) of Netscape and, so far (fingers crossed), it's working fine. And, actually better than IE ever did...no pop-ups and browser hi-jackings like I got with IE.
Cheers all!
P.S. My other computer, a Mac, thankfully remains virus, bug free, and oh-so-superior in nearly every way to my stinkin' Windows PC!
I installed Spyware Doctor about two weeks ago after paying $39.95
next thing I could not access the Internet no way would it work
I just did not connect the dots, my fault that part was I took the
computer in to check it and they found nothing wrong and said they
could get online, now I don't believe them either. I brought it home
and it still would not work. So I uninstalled good old Spyware Doctor
and booted and it came up. I am going to ask for a refund now I
suppose that will be a problem after what I have read about the
company.
hi,as to spyware doctor? i have and many I know run spyware doctor with no trouble, may i ask if you have a second drive ? if so just take the power off your second drive and you will remove it in the normal ways second drives can cause trouble and i have heard that this will cure it ,as its the same when you go back to factory settings TAKE THE SECOND DRIVE OFF,and you will have no trouble with recovery if you do not ,then you get trouble, give it a try,Yohan.

I have Spyware Doctor for over a month and it has been working great for me. Maybe you have a program on your computer that was running at the time that caused Spyware Doctor to not install properly.
Could you have another 'infection' that is upsetting Spyware Doctor.
I find a couple of other useful Utils are
Shredder: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Popup-Ad-Spyware-Blockers/CWShredder.shtml
HiJack This: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip
Hope these help.
Recently I had one minor problem that was if I check the start on run Spyware Doctor Screen Saver 3D Flower Box, 3D Flying Objects, were not working. Whenever I tried my machine was crashed.
Other questionable event is, when i scanned my machine with Ad-Aware Se, Webroot Spy Sweeper and Zonealarm Antispy did not find anything wrong except Ad-Aware but only 7 Objects. I did not delate it and I scanned my machine with Spyware Doctor and it found items: 88. Such as :
Infection Name Location Risk
Second Sight HKCR\DataGuardEncrytion.DataGuard High
Second Sight HKCR\DataGuardEncrytion.DataGuard## High
Second Sight HKCR\DataGuardEncrytion.DataGuard\CLSID High
Second Sight HKCR\DataGuardEncrytion.DataGuard\CLSID## High
Second Sight HKCR\Interface\{572110FA-7FC4-11D5-B57F-0050BAE7FEC4} High
Second Sight HKCR\Interface\{572110FA-7FC4-11D5-B57F-0050BAE7FEC4}## High

Second Sight HKCR\Interface\{572110FA-7FC4-11D5-B57F-0050BAE7FEC4}\ProxyStubClsid32 High
All the infected names are ''Second Sight''. I have been trying to find out the root cause of this problem, so 3 times I reinstalled the OS and the other softwares. I could not find it exactly but I have suspecion that it is happening after, installing ''Trillianpro, Cyberlink PowerDVD, Nero 6 Ultra Edition. Every time i installed new software i create ''System Restore'' when i did the System Restore problem has gone. Now i deleted the 88 Items that found but no problems. Before delated and after deleted the system performance is the same. Only Spyware Docter makes me confuse.
What is wrong with Spyware Doctor, Ad-Aware, Spy Sweeper and Zonealarm Antispy!
I'll be appreciated any explanation regarding this matter.
Regards,
Early
